Four hurricanes have left our neighbors in the Caribbean and on our own Gulf Coast battered, and now we are in the midst of another kind of storm—the crisis in our country’s financial system.

Bishop Frade has called upon the people of our diocese to trust in God, and to "be Christ’s Body in the world," caring for those who are suffering in these situations. You can read his letter on the financial crisis here; a Spanish translation is here. His message about hurricane relief can be accessed from the front page at www.diosef.org

Donations for hurricane relief should be made payable to Episcopal Charities of Southeast Florida, designated for whichever country or location you feel led to assist, or simply for Hurricane Relief, and mailed to the Episcopal Charities office at 8895 N. Military Trail, Suite 205-C, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410. Donations can also be made online on the diocesan website at www.diosef.org; an option is provided for designating a particular storm and/or location

The Church of England website offers several resources for the current international financial turmoil, as well as for individuals and families who are worried about debt. A prayer for the current financial crisis is at http://www.cofe.anglican.org/prayers/#financial. Prayers for persons burdened by debt are at http://www.cofe.anglican.org/prayers/#debtprayers. In addition to the prayers, Church of England also offers the Matter of Life and Debt web pages at http://www.cofe.anglican.org/debt.

Miami area leaders of all faiths will lead prayers for our administration to grant Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to Haitians residing in the United States, so that they will not be returned to a country in ruin. TPS would also enable Haitians currently in the US to continue to work and send remittances to their loved ones in Haiti whose very survival may depend on their support.
